     Benjamin Bray was born on 23 July 1851 in Hobart, Tas, Aust.^1,3,2,4 He was the son of Benjamin Bray and Mary Ann McLoughlin.² Benjamin Bray was baptized on 4 August 1851 in St Joseph's, Hobart, Tas, Aust.² He He was probably born in 1853 as the Benjamin born in 1851 appears to have died. (see #12652) in 1852.⁴ He was a fencer in 1880 in Vic, Aust.² He married Maria Mills, daughter of Henry Mills and Phillis Lockyer, on 24 May 1880 in Christchurch, Castlemaine, Vic, Aust.^1,3,2 Benjamin Bray died on 27 June 1928 in Chewton, Vic, Aust, at age 76; cause of death was heart failure.^2,3

     Benjamin Bray was born in January 1815 in Peterborough, Northamptonshire, Eng.^3,2 He was the son of Joseph Bray and Mary Redhead.² Benjamin Bray was baptized on 16 April 1815 in St John the Baptist, Peterborough, Northamptonshire, Eng.² He was convicted of a felony with David Thompson and sentenced to 6 months Gaol. on 2 July 1834 in Northamptonshire, Eng.² He married Eleanor Bedford on 23 February 1835 in Peterborough, Eng.² Benjamin Bray and Eleanor Bedford had four children. after 1835 in Northamptonshire.² Benjamin Bray was convicted together with David Thompson of stealing bags of coal. They were sentenced to 7 years transportation. on 21 October 1843 in Northamptonshire.² He immigrated on 9 July 1844 to Hobart, Tas, Aust; on board the ship London with 250 other convicts, leaving Portsmouth on 23rd March 1844 and arriving.² He married Mary Ann McLoughlin, daughter of John McLoughlin, on 22 July 1850 in St Joseph's, Hobart, Tas, Aust; Benjamin claimed to be only 29 at this marriage.^1,3,2,4 Benjamin Bray was a shipwright in 1851 in Hobart, Tas.² He was granted his freedom on expiry of his sentence after serving periods of hard labour for various minor offences. on 7 January 1851 in Tas, Aust.² He emigrated on 16 October 1851 from Launceston, Tas, Aust; Sailed to Melbourne on the "Shamrock". His wife and son did not accompany him on this voyage.⁵ He It appears to be very likely that the first Benjamin died in 1852 in Hobart (see # 12652) and that there was a second Benjamin born in 1853 in Melbourne. in 1852.^4,6 He lived on 24 August 1859 in Faraday, Vic, Aust.² He died on 6 March 1877 in Castlemaine, Vic, Aust, at age 62; cause of death was Hepatitis and exhaustion. Buried in Chewn Cemetery.^3,2
